FUTURE 20 @ HOME CINEMA

After finishing university I decided to start working on new projects and putting myself forward into new creative projects, one that personally stood out for me was "Future 20" this was a 18-25 young creative program at HOME cinema in Manchester, I applied online and was invited to the open day where i was created with 20 other individuals, there had been an open day perviously meaning they would choose 20 creatives out of 40.

Future 20 is a year-long artist residency and training programme for emerging artists aged 18-25 that will culminate in a large-scale public event at HOME in August 2020. Through research, mentoring, professional development and leadership training, the collective will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, resources and expertise they need to lead this innovative project and cultivate a viable career in the arts.

On arrival I waited in the reception to be collected, we was then taken up to the main event space, a space i'm familiar with based on our previous work with MSoA doing festival programming here - once in the event space we all sat to go through all the information on the project and what to expect, we then was asked to pick an image that stood out to us from the table and introduce ourselves and why we chose an image.

Following this we were put into groups of 5 to come up with an idea for a gallery space and how we would advertise the space, making it unique. Myself and my group really came together, starting out with an idea for the space, we looked into having windows with actors facing into the room to project the feeling of claustrophobia to our audience and then the idea of filling a room with mirrors to give the space a feeling on ambiguity allowing the audience to become the art opposed to watching the art.

I found it really interesting to meet the other candiedent sand i feel it was important to go to this open day to help connect with others within the industry although i personally didn't feel that the program fitted me for multiple reasons although gained much experience from this.
