The Dan Mirvish talk was truly inspirational, a compelling, humble man who created ‘slam dance international festival’.
Dan created ‘Sundance’ after a failed attempt of entering his feature film in ‘Sun Dance film festival’, in this instance Dan had created a feature film showing it to a distributor who wanted to pick up the film on the condition it got into ‘Sun Dance Festival’.
Around a year prior to creating his feature film Dan has met the south park creators, who also had a failed attempt at getting a show at ‘Sundance Festival’. They decided to start renting out their own screening room, to screen themselves, Dan got dozens of filmmakers and alongside them created ‘Slam Dance festival’.
This festival gave them an outlet to allow in the press, seeking out first-time directors with low budgets, building a platform for new and upcoming independent feature film.
Once the festival built reputation Dan moved back onto making his own he gave extensive advice, engage actor with strong character development, monologues for their showreels, he pointed out the strong female roles being statistically more women actors.
He spoke strongly on creating an environment where agents and actors trust you, and the best way to slide into the industry.
