Reflecting back over the past year looking into my personal and professional development I personally feel I’ve come a long way, at the beginning of the year I was still coming to terms with other students, getting to know who I worked alongside best etc.
At the beginning of this academic year I came to the realisation that I get back what I put into my work, from this point on I’ve been putting my all into every piece of work I’ve created, coming to terms with anxiety and accepting that in order to become a great director I must take control of situations and push for what I know will work best, being an introvert this didn’t come easily to me, it was something that I worked on with my resilience and feel I became a much stronger individual from this process.
Collaboration and team working is something I’ve taken extra time to work on within this academic year, last year I came to the realisation that often people can become ‘flaky’ and disorganised when working within a group, often peoples ideas get pushed to aside and this can often force people to become disinterested in the project, this year I took multiple forms of ideas that I had gained within college to help my groups work as in harmony as possible.
e.g. ensuring at the beginning of a project everyone creates there own ideas, we then choose an idea we like the best and try incorporating certain themes or ideas from everyone’s ideas so that everyone is happy with the final outcome.
For me I find often organisation within groups can be difficult, people become stressed, I decided that this year I was going to make schedules and to do lists for every group and individual I work alongside, giving them there own personalised schedule, that’s colour coded based on date, deadline and task really helps individuals get on with work must faster.
I’ve gained many strengths this year, overcoming much fear for myself within this industry, all these strengths I will take on into my third ear and develop them even more.
Over the third year I’d hope to develop more leadership skills helping me within my hope for directing and producing, throughout the rest of this year and also next year I will be taking opportunity’s to work as cinematographer, something my confidence has grown with a lot over the past year and I hope to gain higher skills with.
Organization, time management, communication within groups, self-initiative and leadership are the main things that I’ve been focusing on within this academic year, Self initiative being key for me as its something I needed to delve deeper into, the first project this year I undertook was on my own, creating a deeply personal short on mental health, this was the beginning of the journey for self-initiative, while working within groups I’ve taken this to help with time management and organising the group, and ensuring everyone knows what needs to be done within a particular time frame.
