Ladies Day: Abena Taylor Smith (10 minutes):

Abena spoke of Ladies Day and how she had such a personal involvement to her film; she always went to the hairdressers yet shed never experienced the atmosphere on film before. She explained you have to care about the story so dearly for it to truly come to life; the film will become such huge part of your life. She spoke of how Shortflix helped her so much due to the huge frequency of feedback that she received and this helped her so much, Shortflix invested time, allowing you to apply with a simple idea and develop that into a script after, she also mentioned about how specific she was about what she wanted.

Loosing It: Ben Robins (10 minutes):

Ben’s talk was extremely funny, he spoke so openly about his script as I quote “He didn’t mean to write something about sex”, he spoke of how he began twisting the lenses on things, such as British things “elephant in the room when talking about sex”, people put things under a microscope and blow it up. He enjoys using long takes and revealing certain aspects throughout, for his particular film he used the structure of “Roahl Dahl” unexpected tales, he learnt to tell a story with many twists.

He then went on to discuss the actor of the boy with leukaemia, he was originally supposed to be a child yet SKY TV said absolutely not so they changed him to a teenage boy. He explained that even now he doesn’t know anything, he just knows how to communicate with people better.

Nosebleed: Luna Carmoon (10 minutes):

Luna’s film is based on a toxic friendship, a film I took so much inspiration from, and it’s a true story on the toxicity of being a girl and how gross we can actually be. It’s a story of her best friend and how they had real fights due to them being so close its like family. She wanted to create something cinematic that she would want to watch and she got so frustrated when people stated her film wasn’t realistic.

The issues she faced was due to writing in a specific language, the executives at SKY TV couldn’t visualise her film and due to this being her first film she didn’t think they believed in her yet she did such an incredible film.

Meeting these filmmakers really showed me how incredible these outlets are, it taught me how to use initiative and make original content that an audience would want to watch, the more personal the film is the more there is to do. They mentioned getting an A3 piece of paper and cut it into 3 (beginning, middle and end).
