Over the past academic year I’ve submitted two films to multiple festivals and screening opportunities, festivals found on the courses professional experience Facebook group and also ones sourced online.
The film I submitted most frequently and with most intent was ‘Obsessive Compulsive Me’. Originally I submitted my film ‘Obsessive Compulsive Me’ to HOME Cinema for a screening opportunity at the ‘filmed Up: North West Filmmakers Night event’.Unfortunately my application was declined for this particular application, although if anything this pushed me more into finding festival where I could sign up for multiple awards giving me a larger opportunity of getting my film shown.
Browsing ‘Film freeway’ helped a lot with this I found the ‘UK Cine Fest’ This gave me the opportunity of signing up for 6 awards (best short drama, short documentary, best experimental, cinematography, editing and the UKCineFest young filmmaker award.
While waiting for confirmation on if my film got into the festival I looked further into film festival, open submissions and screening opportunities, at first I was slightly shocked with the lack of festivals concerning mental health as this was a huge part of the film that I’d been eager to submit and get out there, although delving further into websites and submission forms I realised how it could fit into many categories and sub categories, many international.
Since then I’ve submitted my film to a hand full of screening opportunities and film festivals in order to get my film out there, the submission I’ve sent deadlines all vary over the next few weeks to the next year, I’m hoping to have got into at least two of these festivals with my film, seeing international film festivals as an opportunity to work on subtitles and make a name for myself within other country’s as an indie filmmaker.
